While Nikon take great measures to assure high quality in its imaging products, it has recently come to our attention that an electronic component related to power control in some Nikon D5000 cameras does not meet factory specifications and may, in certain circumstances, prevent the camera from turning on, thus preventing operation of the camera.

How to identify when this issue occurs
The camera cannot be operated when the power switch is turned on. This happens when the camera is powered either by fully-charged battery or with the Power Connector EP-5 and AC Adapter EH-5a connected.

Is your D5000 affected by this issue?
Use the “Check Serial Number” link below to check if your camera is affected by this issue. If your camera serial number is verified as requiring service, additional instructions and contact information will be provided. This is a preventative service measure which will ensure that your camera continues to function to your satisfaction.Important: the Serial Number Check-System has recently been updated (additional camera serial numbers have been added).
